Tutorial-- 11 June 3013

It has been ages since I sat down with my group members so I was quite exciting about today’s tutorial but after I presented my research and illustration style, I was a bit disappointed in myself as I hadn't achieved the goals that I had set myself after the meeting on 30th May; therefore, Kay thought I have lost a bit of direction and suggested me to focus on the content of application and how it nominate the tea lady now?

There are several bullet points below:
  • For the 25/06 produce a full story board of how the content of app/ screen works--with visual.
  • Produce a worked up layout/ animation- with color.
  • contact and book in Andrew Harries--ceramics.
  • Continue to research machines/ apps and how they work.

Case Study--Coca Cola: Hug Me

To research interesting concept of interactive design is my new assignments for next module; therefore, I browsed some magazine while I found some interesting design, such as, Hug me, Smile-activated ice cream vending machine, and Smart Touch Screen Vending Machine…etc.

(Coca Cola)

The concept of Hug me, which is created by Ogilvy & Mather Singapore, is about how to increase the social interaction by interacting with a Coca Cola vending. To be more specifics, students at the National University of Singapore (NUS) got pleasantly surprised in March of this year when a Coca Cola vending machine was placed overnight with the words ‘Hug Me’. What makes this unusual vending machine special is that it responds to physical hugs before dispensing a free can of Coke. Public displays of affection are uncommon and have long been discouraged in Singapore, but are on the rise amongst young people. The move intended to position the brand as a non-threatening ally to demonstrating youth. In terms of the concept of hug me, it would be interesting that a tea machine which interacts with the employees by touching the machine in the office.

The set of Duncan mugs inspired me to think about maybe Eleven Four could provide this kinds of mugs because the design of the bottom of the mug is convenient for employees to put some biscuits inside and it could help they to maintain a clean table when they are busy.

Inspiration-- Natasha Daintry

Natasha Daintry, who makes vessels from porcelain, is good at using the color as a material for beautifully bowls. she belief that clay is inherently a flexible material and vessels fulfill both useful and abstract functions. The collection of Ziggurat inspired me to explore the relationship between color and tea.

Namely, applying the color from the tea might be a good way to design the cup. Moreover, putting the bowls from smell to big or big to smell is interesting because it is like the relationship of employees-- from management to workers in the office.

Research-- Names for shapes of tea cups

(Royalalbert, 2008)

(Royalalbert, 2008)

British tea cup--

With handle because in the past they use Turkey's glass cup but this material is not suitable for drinking hot tea so when British start to enjoy the hot tea, they decided to add the handle for the cup.

(Wen- Qi  Lo, 2009)

Chinese tea cup--

Different time have different style but most of them do not have handle because according to the Wen- Qi  Lo, The most wonderful taste of green tea should be produced when the water temparature is 15 degree (c) below the boiling point. Namely, after the process of boiling tea, the water  temperature would reduced about 10- 15 degree. We must wait patiently and the temparature of the tea cup would be just right to hold in hands therefore By not putting handle, it make people be more aware of the serving temparature.

Inspiration-- 20TH CENTURY CERAMIC DESIGNER IN BRITAIN

( Dorothy Jessie Tait, ceramic designer, born 6 March 1928; died 14 January 2010)

(Jessie Tait, 1950 )

(Jessie Tait, 1960 )

The devastation of Second World War had a serious impact on British ceramics industry; however, Jessie Tait who created some of the best known and most innovative ceramic designs of the 1950s did not be affected because she always leading the trend.

Through reading the book, 20TH CENTURY CERAMIC DESIGNER IN BRITAIN, I got some inspiration to create the cup of Eleven Four.
